World History, Vol 1, to 1500
1. Understanding the Past
History is a documented account of past events which helps in understanding why we are the way we are, thereby enabling self-understanding and change. However, for history to serve this purpose, it must accurately reflect the past and not just justify or mask darker aspects of human nature. While the version of history may not be perfect due to unheard voices, every new book or source helps in making it more accurate and comprehensive.
